KROCCITYONTV NEWS: Dangote to establish power plant in Kano, Abuja

CHAIRMAN, Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dan­gote, has disclosed the plan to establish power plants in Kano and Abuja as part of a policy to develop power in­frastructure in Nigeria

He made this disclosure at the 38th Convocation lecture of the Ahmadu Bello Univer­sity, Zaria, on Friday.

Dangote said the project was part of the company’s $5billion joint venture agree­ment with Black Rhino Group, a subsidiary of the Black Stone Group to de­velop a power infrastructure in Africa.

This, he said, would go a long way to boost power gen­eration in the country. “We are also furthering a new ground by investing in two 554Km, 3 billion square cubic meter feet gas offshore pipeline project, the first indigenous owned undersea gas pipeli­nethat will supply gas to in­dustries and power plants and it would be run from Bonny through Gas fields,’’ he said. In order to make Nigeria self sufficient in Sugar produc­tion, Dangote said plans were underway to cultivate over 260, 000 hectares of sugar plantation to produced 20 million metric tons of cane and 2 million metric tons of sugar. This is in addition to U$$1billion dollars also earmarked for commercial production of rice paddy. He further stressed the devel­opment of entrepreneurial capacity for sustainable eco­nomic growth. According to him, the best approach to tackle the socio- economic problems confronting Nige­ria is to strengthen the small and medium entrepreneur­ship as well as eliminating the problem of power supply, lack of access to finance and a good regulatory environ­ment.
Dangote assured the university of his support for research and facility devel­opment. The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi 11, who was the chairman on the Occasion, commended the effort of Dangote Group to transform the Nigerian economy.

"Saved by the Bell" actor Dustin Diamond has been booked into jail to start his four-month sentence for an altercation at a Wisconsin bar.

The Ozaukee County Jail website shows Diamond was booked Friday.

Diamond played Screech on the 1990s TV show. He was convicted in June of carrying a concealed weapon and disorderly conduct, both misdemeanors. He was cleared of a felony. He was to start jail during the summer, but a judge put the sentence on hold while Diamond appealed. Diamond withdrew his appeal last month.

Diamond testified he was trying to protect his girlfriend when he pulled out a pocketknife to ward people off and accidentally stabbed a man at the Port Washington bar on Christmas in 2014.

Port Washington is 25 miles north of Milwaukee.

Yasutaro Koide had said his secret to a long life was not to smoke, drink or overdo it.

A hiker in southern California stumbled upon the effects of a woman who disappeared more than three years ago.

Megan Dipiazza had not been seen since November 2012, when the then 33-year-old left a note saying goodbye to her family in the trash can of her Los Angeles foothills home.

An unnamed hiker discovered the mother’s car in the nearby Angeles National Forest on Sunday, and later realized the import of what he found after he searched the name on an ID card he found.

Investigators on the scene discovered a family photo, her credit cards as well as bones, which are being tested for a DNA match, in the vehicle 500 feet down a ravine.

Chief Veterinary Officer of the Plateau State Ministry of Agriculture, Dr Doris Bitrus, confirmed today that over 22,000 birds were destroyed as a result of the avian influenza/bird flu. According to her, about nine farms in the state had been affected by the disease and the government has taken necessary measures to contain the spread of the disease.
